The New Saints Under 19’s beat Taffs Well six one in the Quarter Final of the FAW Youth Cup.
Steve Evans’ Saints enjoyed a dream start thanks to Ryan Kershaw curling in a corner after only two minutes.
Minutes later and it was two nil to The Saints. Jamie Hands got across the front post to stab in the ball after some great work from Rhys Cooper.
The prolific Taylor James scored from close range to make it three nil after only thirteen minutes and all but seal a place in the Semi-Final.
James completed his brace eight minutes into the second half after slotting home a Dylan Jones cross.
Taffs Well grabbed a goal back after some sloppy passing from TNS but within minutes, Evans’ Saints scored again. The impressive Cooper was brought down inside the 18yard box and James stepped up to complete his hat-trick from the penalty spot.
With only five minutes left to play, Kershaw scored the goal of the game. The midfielder riffled in an unstoppable free kick from 25 yards out.
Assistant manager Gordon Evans was delighted with the team and said, ‘It wasn’t the prettiest of games but the lads thoroughly deserved the win. We started superbly but we became a little complacent and that is something in which we addressed at half time. We were much better in the second half. The lads deserve all the credit because they have been fantastic and are getting the rewards for all their hard work’.
