The New Saints Under 16’s lost in the final of the National Futsal Cup yesterday.
Steve Benyon’s young Saints travelled down to Cardiff for the competition and took on Afan Lido in the Semi-Final.
TNS were excellent throughout the contest, winning 9-3 to secure a spot in the Final.
Gap Connah’s Quay awaited them in what was a final that consisted of two sides from North Wales.
The Saints started well and raced into a two goal lead but Jay Cotton’s Nomads pulled it back and drew level.
The TNS Under 16’s then missed a glorious chance to retake the lead but missed from the penalty spot and to add to the misery, Connah’s Quay managed to score the winning goal of the game in the last minute of the match.
Manager, Benyon was full of praise for his side and said, ‘We did really well to make it to the final and I am proud of my team. We will pick ourselves up and now push towards the league. I would also like to congratulate Jay Cotton and his Gap Connah’s Quay team.’
The squad that competed consisted of Andy Wycherley, Jack Perry, Jack Bates, Steve Roberts, Matt Bainbridge, Matt Perry, Harrison Millington, Nash Mwamuka, Greg Evans ,Ross Tyler, Steve Roberts, George Minshall, Tom Birch and Cal Graybrook.
