The New Saints Under 19’s kicked off the defence of their Under 19’s League title with a hard fought one nil victory over Airbus thanks to a late goal from Ryan Kershaw.
Steve Evans’ side began their quest for a second title like champions and passed the ball around with confidence, taking control of the game in the process.
Airbus then got a foothold in the game and created a couple of good chances for themselves but The Saints’ Andy Wycherly was alert to keep the Wingmakers out.
The second half started with TNS piling the pressure on the home side but it seemed it wasn’t going to be The Saints’ day when the referee ruled out what appeared like a perfectly good goal.
However, Evans’ team didn’t let it affect them and with the move of the match scored the only goal of the game after Ben Richards had slipped a great through ball for Harrison Millington to run onto, who then cooly squared for Kershaw to slot home from 12 yards out.
Evans was understandably delighted with the victory and said, ‘I am so pleased to have got off to a good start. The lads were good today. They worked hard and defended well when they were asked questions from a good Airbus team. Our passing could have been better but all in all it was a good performance and a great win.’
