Community Foundation Need Your Vote

The New Saints FC Community Foundation has been shortlisted for the Lloyds Bank Community Fund 2014 in the Wrexham/Oswestry area.

By encouraging the public to vote, the Community Foundation has a chance to be awarded a grant of up to £3,000 from Lloyds Bank to enable it to continue doing good work in the community.

The New Saints FC Community Foundation is the charitable arm of The New Saints Football Club. Based just outside Oswestry, its activities stretch in to north and mid wales, as well as northern Shropshire. It provides after school activities for a number of local primary schools in Oswestry and Chirk, and this year has also been delivering fun ‘street sport’ type activities for young people in Oswestry who would not otherwise have the opportunity to participate in club sport activities. It is also working with young health champions attending Dinas Bran School, Marches School and Walford and North Shropshire College who want to develop girls football activities with their fellow students.

Foundation Officer Niall Broe said: “We want to be able to do more of this, across a wider area, also linking young people to their local community sport clubs. An award from Lloyds Community Fund would make a huge difference to The New Saints FC Community Foundation, enabling us to build on our activities this summer and purchase fun ‘street sports’ equipment which will make a difference to the lives of young people in local towns and villages providing them with opportunities to get involved in fun, healthy sports activities where otherwise opportunities and space are limited. Our aim through this will be to equip young people with the tools and confidence to improve their life chances, including organising their own sporting activities.

Cllr Vince Hunt added: “TNS have been doing a fantastic job through the summer with our young people, and this award would go a long way to helping them continue the work they have started. I will support them, and I hope everyone else will to.”

The Lloyds Bank Community Fund was set up to help local people across England, Wales, and Northern Ireland, the Channel Islands and Isle of Man to have a positive impact at the heart of their community by giving grants to up to 1,400 local good causes in 350 communities.

There are four good causes shortlisted in each community and Lloyds Bank is inviting everyone to vote for the causes they’d most like to support.

Members of the public can vote for their preferred community group on-line, by SMS or Twitter, or in a branch of Lloyds bank from 2 September to 10 October 2014. The local good cause that receives most votes in each community will receive an award of £3,000, with the other groups receiving £2,000, £1,000 or £500 depending on the votes received.
