Walking Football

Prior to The New Saints’ six nil victory against Prestatyn Town, the first ever Walking Football tournament took place at Park Hall Stadium.

The teams that entered included Senior Seasiders from Blackpool FC, Shrewsbury, TNS, The Buzzards from Llanythlyn and The Derwen New Saints.

TNS were the overall winners beating Shrewsbury 4-0 in the final thanks to a hat trick from Stuart Burrows.

The Consolation Cup was won by The Buzzards who beat DNS 4-0.

Special mention goes out to “Grandad” who is in his 70’s and helped make up the team numbers for DNS who were short on the day. He was unanimously chosen as man of the match for the whole festival for his excellent sportsmanship.

It was Shropshire’s first Walking Football Festival and all of the teams had a great experience. Everyone associated with the TNS FC Community Foundation were very proud to have hosted such a successful event.

Next year we will look at hosting two festivals. One in the spring and another in the autumn, making them bigger and better while promoting the growing sport of Walking Football.

Steve Hyde from Blackpool Senior Seasidersadded, ‘It is a brilliant venue, the tournament was very well organised and the weather was great.  We will certainly be attending future events and will try to bring two teams next time.’

After the tournament, all the teams enjoyed the hospitality suite before watching The New Saintsthrash Prestatyn Town, ‘We were also very impressed with the TCNS first-team as well,’ concluded Steve Hyde.
