The New Saints Under 19 team continued their fine start to the season as they made it through to the Quarter Finals of the FAW Welsh Youth Cup after a 2-1 home win over Gap Connah’s Quay Under 19s in a tight 3rd Round encounter at Park Hall Stadium on Sunday evening.
Saints took the lead in the 12th minute when Dylan Jones’ throw in on the left found Tom Ash who turned and passed infield to Nyasha Mamwuka and as Mark Murch attempted to shoot, he was tackled inside the box by Nomads’ Ben Nash with the ball running into the path of Mamwuka who rounded keeper Danny McAdam before slotting home from about 3 yards.
It was eventually 2-0 in the 58th minute when Mamwuka’s deftly lifted free kick from the left into the box found the unmarked James Jones who headed into McAdam’s right hand corner from 6 yards.
Nomads pulled a goal back in the 61st minute when Jamie Roberts picked up a loose Saints pass deep inside his own half and ran forward before feeding Tom Bibby, who ran forward into the box and beat his man before setting up Josh Rimmer to fire into Saints keeper Andy Wycherly’s right hand corner.
There were no further goals and Saints held on to claim a place in the quarter finals.
