Whittington Primary and Brynhafren Primary have both been presented with cheques for £500 as part of The New Saints Community Foundation’s recently announced funding programme for local Oswestry schools. The ceremony took place at half time during the match between The New Saints and Gap Connah’s Quay at Park Hall Stadium.
The presentations were made by TNS FC Chief Operating Officer Ian Williams and Community Foundation Officer Niall Broe who commented: “We are delighted to be working in partnership with these schools which, in addition to providing much needed additional funding, will give a new generation of fans the opportunity to watch and become part of The New Saints Football Club as well as benefitting from a range of discounts at The Venue. We hope to be announcing more schools joining the scheme over the coming months.”
The Family Reward Card scheme is funded by The Venue Leisure Club at Park Hall and a generous donation from local entrepreneur Mike Harris who is also Chairman of TNS FC. It has been designed to provide schools with invaluable additional funding to help meet government targets for healthy eating and living as well as increasing participation in sports whilst providing pupils and their families with discounts off a broad range of activities at The Venue.
Schools that are selected take a share of the initial funding, which could grow to more than £100K depending on the level of participation. They will also have privileged access to the resources of the TNS Foundation which carries out a wide range of community initiatives at no charge including healthy eating programmes, after-school clubs, sports coaching sessions, general fitness and lifestyle programmes and more.
