TNS Scholarship Provides Cup Final Hero

The New Saints of Oswestry Town clinched their sixth League Cup yesterday and what made it even better was that the Cup Final hero had progressed through the highly regarded TNS Scholarship programme.

Having come through the TNS Academy, Scott Quigley, excelled during his time at the TNS FC Scholarship and is now proof that the Academy does provide a route into the first team.

The 22 year old scored a brilliant brace for his team at Paveways Latham Park yesterday to help his side to a comprehensive 3-0 victory over Bala Town.

The powerful winger was voted as the man of the match yesterday afternoon and was thoroughly delighted to have scored a brilliant brace, ‘I was really happy to have been selected and then I was over the moon to score two goals. I thought we played really well as a team and I was also delighted with my own performance.’

Quigley also added that he feels as though he really benefited from the Scholarship, ‘The Scholarship was great for me and I really feel I improved as a footballer during my time in it. It was a great place for me to learn, improve and work on my weaknesses and I can honestly say, that I feel as though I wouldn’t be where I am now if I hadn’t of been involved in it. Martin and Pete were my coaches and they were great with me and I know that Scott Ruscoe and Steve Evans are also doing an excellent job. They are both great role models and I am sure that the lads will benefit from working with them on a regular basis.’

The TNS number 22 has featured regularly for The Saints this season and confirmed that he wants to keep on scoring goals and hopefully win more trophies, ‘I have really enjoyed this season so far. I have played regularly and scored goals which is what I always work hard for. The team have been great this season and I think that if we keep going, we can win the League and hopefully stay unbeaten.’

The highly rated youngster also left a message to all of the current Scholars as well as anyone else who is thinking of joining it, ‘I would tell all members of the Academy and people who are thinking of joining that it was a brilliant place for me and I have benefited from it. Stick at it, work hard, listen and want to learn is what my message would be. Believe in yourself and you can do it!’
