The New Saints Ladies produces arguably their best performance of the season as they over come Kingshurst Sporting Club at Park Hall Stadium.
The New Saints Ladies got off to a flying start when after just five minutes Emily Ridge opened the scoring after the Kingshurst goalkeeper flapped at a cross and Ridge was on hand to tap in. Just two minutes later and the Saints added their second, after good play around the penalty area, Sam Berry was able to get her shot off and slot past the goalkeeper. The Saints then dominated large amounts of possession but were frustrated by the Kingshurst defence who remained solid until just after the half hour mark. Sam Berry delivered a tantalizing ball across the face of goal, only to see Sarah Burke free at the back post to stab the ball home to increase the lead. Burke’s joy was short lived as a minute later she went over on her ankle and had to be replaced by under 18’s player Michelle Pasco. Sam Berry was involved with the next goal as well but this time adding her second of the game after playing good interact football, worked the ball into the box for her to side foot into the bottom corner. Sophie Edwards then added the Saints fifth unleashing a viscous strike from twenty yards that gave the Sporting goalkeeper no chance. The visitors got a goal back on the last touch of the half. A corner from the right hand side was met by a bullet header into the roof of the net to pull a goal back.
Second half saw the Saints move the ball well once again frustrating their opposition by them not being able to get the ball. It wasn’t long before this dominance paid off, Sam Berry completing her hat-trick after working off Emily Ridge to create space to get her shot off. The Saints had to wait till after the hour mark to get their next goal, a ball down the line to Laura Morris who beat her defender and cut inside, slotting the ball into the corner of the net. The Saints scoring was completed by Jade Hill. After beating her player with a nice bit of skill to then link with Emily Ridge before slotting the ball home. The Saints then looked to control the game but the visitors defence closed ranks and didn’t allow the Saints to add to their goal tally.
Joe Thompson commented on the Saints’ fantastic performance, “Probably our best team performance of the season some of the football was unbelievable mate a joy to watch.”
He went on to say “The back three were top class, another great performance from Michelle who came on for the injured Sarah. Front two of Sam and Emily did really well and there isn’t going on to be many people who can live with there work rate, but all 14 of the players involved were outstanding today.
“Stand out players for us today were Sam and Kate. For different reasons Sam getting another hat-trick and Kate was top class at the back and again we keep on rolling on gathering pace and momentum all the time. People starting to take notice of us. You can tell that by the healthy attendance today.”
