The New Saints Foundation team lost out to Manchester City by six goals to two in a glamourous friendly held at City’s brand new Etihad Training Complex.
The game began brightly for TNS but Manchester City took the lead through Wilfred Bony’s son.
The home side then scored a second minutes later before making it three nil within minutes.
The second half started with City again in control and added a fourth goal soon after the restart. However, Ralfie Challinor pounced on a defensive mistake and calmly slotted home to give his TNS side a lifeline.
The Saints grew in confidence with Rhys Pettigrew, Alfie Harrison and Challinor all going close to scoring a second goal.
However, against the run of play City added to their lead making the score 5-1 going into the third half.
The final half saw TNS continue were they left off when Ed Moore expertly finished the move of the match. Josh Burnett timed his tackle well and Joe Drummond picked up the ball before the impressive Moore volleyed home.
Manchester City did however score again after a defensive mix up but the TNS lads really made their club proud.
Coach Kieran Lee-Birch said, ‘We gave absolutely everything, we left every ounce of energy on the pitch. A special mention must go to Ralfie and Ed for their goals as they’ll live long in the memory.’
The squad was made up of Lewiz Jones, Alex Madesley, Josh Burnett, Riley Griffiths, Joe Drummond, Rhys Pettigrew, Alfie Harrison, Ralfie Challinor, Ed Moore.
