The New Saints of Oswestry Town secured a place in theWord Cup Final after beating Carmarthen Town 4-1 at a very windy Park Hall Stadium.
Goals from Ryan Edwards, Simon Spender and a brilliant brace from Scott Quigley secured the victory for Craig Harrison’s side.
With the conditions making it very hard to get the ball down and play, TNS began brightly and opened the scoring after six minutes when Ryan Edwards bundled into the empty net. His initial header had been kept out by the Carmarthen goalkeeper but the TNS youngster was alert and tapped in the rebound.
With a quarter of an hour played, Spender then found himself on the edge of the box but his powerful drive was kept out by Lee Idzi.
However, with 20 minutes played, Liam Thomas headed in from a tight angle to level the score.
TNS’ Quigley then skimmed the post with a brilliant header as TNS started to regain control of the match.
Soon after, Spender did find the back of the net and put The Saints back in front. The energetic right back found space on the edge of the box before finding the bottom corner to give TNS a 2-1 half time lead.
The Saints began the second half well and extended the lead in the 53rd minute when Ryan Edwards’ excellent pass picked out Quigley who coolly slotted in from the edge of the box.
The powerful forward then pounced on a defensive error and made it 4-1 after a brilliant goal from an acute angle.
Moments later Jamie Mullan fired just wide as The Saints continued to push forward in search of more goals.
In what was a very impressive performance from TNS, Quigley nearly completed his hat-trick in the last minute of the game but his shot rolled inches wide.
