TNS Retain theWord Cup

The New Saints of Oswestry Town retained the Word Cup after a 2 -0 win against Denbigh Town at Park Mbi Maesdu.

Matty Williams headed home in the 25th minute to give TNS a half time lead before a second half goal from Mike Wilde doubled the lead to give The Saints a 2-0 victory and pick up the first silverware of the season.

TNS began well and controlled the possession but were unable to find a way past a stubborn Denbigh defence.

Long range shots from Chris Seargeant tested Elliot Power and a Williams shot was cleared off the line but were unable to add to the goal advantage going into the break.

The second half began in a similar fashion with TNS dominating possession despite the wind picking up.

In the 57th minute, Wilde doubled the lead with a superb header after being picked out by Adrian Cieslewicz.

Further chances came through the likes of Jamie Mullan and Aeron Edwards but despite being in control, no further goals came.

Denbigh rallied late on but were unable to find a way past Paul Harrison who was able to lift the trophy with the rest of the squad.
