The New Saints retained The Word Cup with victory over Cymru Alliance side Denbigh Town in the final at Llandudno’s Maesdu Park on Saturday and manager Craig Harrison was delighted to pick up the first trophy available this season.
Matty Williams’ header gave TNS the lead and Mike Wilde’s second half goal sealed a seventh League Cup win for Saints, who were made to battle all the way by Denbigh.
The former Middlesbrough and Crystal Palace defender, Harrison was delighted to have retained the trophy and said, ‘I thought first half we were very good but second half weren’t the best. Maybe a little bit of complacency crept in.’
Harrison, who picked up his ninth trophy during his four year reign added, ‘I thought Denbigh were excellent in the second half and they’re a credit to their league and a credit to the club. The aim was to get that first trophy and we want another two with the league and Welsh Cup. That’s always been the aim from the start of the season.’
