The New Saints of Oswestry Town’s Park Hall Stadium played host to an international match for the first ever time last night with TNS goalkeeper Andy Wycherley playing 90 minutes.
The Under 18’s Centenary Shield fixture between England and the Republic of Ireland was played at The Saints’ ground with the match finishing in a 2-2 draw, which was enough for England to clinch the tournament.
With four minutes played, Jamie Ahern pounced on a defensive mistake and put the visitors ahead.
Zak Lilly then had a chance to level for England but his shot clipped the bar on it’s way over.
However, the Republic of Ireland doubled their advantage minutes later thanks to a superb finish from the lively Dylan Grimes.
Ten minutes into the second half, England pulled a goal back. Aaron Smith’s was able to find space just outside the box and thundered in a spectacular goal leaving David Coffey no chance.
In what was a dramatic finish to the game, England managed to level the game and the goal sealed the shield for the English.
