Manchester City, Rochdale, Shrewsbury Town And More – Academy Round-Up

As we look back, it has been another great week for all involved with The New Saints FC Academy, with lots of matches against top opposition.

Following on from the weekend’s fixtures at Fleetwood and our U15s in Sheffield for the Youdan tournament, we have had multiple games plus another tournament, this time our U13s travelling to France. There is a separate post on that HERE

As we are still in the school holiday period, midweek games are easier to arrange and we welcomed Chester City and Shrewsbury Town to Park Hall Stadium. These involved our U13s, U14s, U15s and U16s. Our U12s meanwhile had a very evenly-contested game against AFC Telford United.

On Thursday evening our U8s and U9s travelled to Manchester City to play at the state-of-the-art Etihad training complex. The facilities there are superb and they ensured a fantastic experience for our young Saints. Our U8s showed signs of real quality against difficult opposition. Our U9s were really up for the challenge and took the game to City in spells. Two great matches with lots of positives to take away.

On Saturday we welcomed Rochdale to Park Hall Stadium to face our U14s and U15s. Both squads were down to bare numbers with many missing due to holiday commitments. However, our players put in good solid performances. The younger age group were really positive and unfortunate in the final third. Their build-up play was good but they struggled to score. On the other hand, the U15s were sharp in front of goal and managed to find the net several times.

On Sunday our U19s faced Cefn Druids in the first Development League game of the season, coming away 1-0 winners, courtesy of an Harry Bower strike in the first half. Read all about it HERE

On Monday we travelled across country to Tamworth in Staffordshire, with everyone involved except our U13s who were still on their way back from France.

It was great to get fixtures for all age groups and we would like to express many thanks to Tamworth for the warm welcome and hospitality.

With constant action throughout the summer, it’s been a long one indeed and we are now looking forward to restarting our Academy programme next week as the players get back to training.

Many thanks to Jason Brindley for the information in this week’s report. If you’re interested in finding out more about our Academy, contact him at jason.brindley@tnsfc.co.uk
