Bower Hits Four As Development Squad Win At Conwy

On Sunday 3rd September 2017, sixteen of the the new Professional Phase players travelled to Conwy Borough FC to take part in their second JD WPL Development Game.

The stage was set for a tough game in challenging conditions. Although the average age of the squad was just sixteeen, coach Steve Benyon was quick to sing their praises:

They played some eye-catching, one-touch football. They were constantly probing the Conwy rearguard and were rewarded with three first half goals, which in all honesty could, and should have, been more.”

The only blot on the copybook was a goal conceded just before half-time, that saw TNS take a 3-1 lead into the break.

The second period resulted in a further five goals but again numerous chances in front of goal were not capitalised on. Just the one conceded though – that Benyon described as “soft” ensured that TNS ran out 8-2 winners.

Continuing with his thoughts on the game, the main man added, “Credit to all the players, including the new ones added to the squad this week, as well as Conwy who kept probing till the end.”

Looking ahead and sharing his thoughts on where the team is at present, he concluded, “Now on to next week’s training programme, in preparation for Sunday’s game at home to Caernarfon.”

“Again, what is pleasing is to see how many talented players have missed out on the squad who certainly deserve a place. Again it goes to show the real strength in depth I have at my disposal, following a positive week’s training.”
