Earlier today (Sunday, October 8 2017), The New Saints of Oswestry Town’s Professional Phase side travelled to Caersws for their Welsh Youth Cup round one fixture.
In a game that was rescheduled from last week due to heavy rain that caused postponement, Steve Benyon’s side were looking to carry on with their winning ways, following Wednesday’s Category 1 victory at Rochdale.
Resting a number of players, while bringing in fresh faces, Benyon was pleased to see his team get off to an excellent start.
A brace from Steel and one from Reynolds, saw the visitors surge into a 3-0 lead within the first ten minutes.
Reynolds completed his hat-trick before the break, as goals from Williams and Gray ensured that The New Saints went into the dressing room 7-0 to the good.
Continuing where they left off in the second half, a further goal from Williams, two from Liam Parry, three from Rob Reynolds and four from Guyguy Maboy saw the game end 17-0.
Steve Benyon was full of praise for his side, especially Reynolds: “It was very pleasing to see Rob Reynolds score six on his full debut since injuring himself pre-season. A number of the other boys put in a shift and gained valuable minutes whilst being professional at all times.”
“We now turn our attention to Monday’s College Trophy against Newcastle, and Wednesday’s Category 1 game against Thomas Telford. Many thanks to Caersws for their hospitality and we wish them every success for the rest of the season.” he concluded.
