All Good Things Must Come To An End – Professional Phase Update

Connah’s Quay Nomads 3 The New Saints of Oswestry Town 2

JD Welsh Premier Development League

All good things must come to an end, as they say. Well, following eight straight wins in the league, the trip to Flintshire proved to be the first stumbling block for the Professional Phase squad.

Report by Steve Benyon

On Sunday November 12th, 15 of the new Professional Phase players faced Connah’s Quay away in the Welsh Premier Development League. We knew we were going to be up against it with the opposition fielding a side littered with 18 and 19 year olds including first team fringe players.

We coped fantastically well but conceded 3 sloppy goals including a last minute penalty. I am not one for blaming officials as I believe we are to blame for decisions and actions leading to the goals.

We scored 2 well-worked goals through James Parry and Guyguy Maboy, and were unfortunate to come away with a 3-2 loss. I am proud of the players who battled well and proved themselves capable at this level, with 11 of the 15 just 16 years of age.

I still feel we aren’t firing on all cylinders with key players missing but still it was a reaction I was expecting and the players delivered today, but now need to work on game management and key decision making in specific areas and at important times, as all 3 goals were avoidable.

Training this week will work on attacking from wide areas, with Wednesday’s games against Dudley and Bridgnorth respectively.
