Report by Jason Brindley
It has been a festive past week for The New Saints FC with our Academy Christmas party. With the pitch white over with an inch of snow, all our pitch activity was cancelled but that hasn’t stopped our players getting into the Christmas spirit. The Venue kindly provided all our Academy players with a Christmas party of food, bowling and lots of fun.
We had in total over 120 players attending over the course of the evening, all wearing their Christmas jumpers. It was a great night and a huge thanks to The Venue for hosting.
With the pitch being out of action, all our home fixtures and training have been cancelled. However we have competed in GAP Futsal at Deeside with different age groups over the weekend.
On Saturday morning our U8s and U9s competed against other Academies from North Wales in friendly Futsal fixtures. Our U8s seemed to have a hangover from the night before, too many mince pies from the Academy Christmas Party, as they started the early morning slow. They haven’t played Futsal so it was a bit of an adjustment period but they soon found their feet and at times played some fantastic football.
Our U9s were next up and they were fantastic. They moved the ball quickly through combinations and they really showed the DNA of the club and understanding of our principles. Some of the play was breathtaking, against very good opposition too.
On Sunday our U12/14/16s continued their competitive FAW Academy Cup Futsal at Deeside for day 2, where they faced Llandudno, Cefn Druids, Prestatyn and Caernarfon. Our U14s were in excellent form and the standout performers of the day. They were brilliant both individually but also more importantly collectively. They have qualified for Day 4 Finals with a day spare which is some achievement. Our U12s and 16s are also in positions that should be ok permitting their performances in day 3.
That concludes our Academy action until the new year. It has been an amazing year for the Academy and we have really seen the improvements and the foundations behind the scene are stronger than ever. I feel that the club and Youth Section particularly has never been so strong.
Our football provision and attention to detail is second to none within the area and further beyond. Also the experiences and opportunities we provide players to face against the top teams from around the UK and further. I would like to thank all our parents for the commitment they provide also which, without them, none of this would be possible.
Finally I would also like to wish all our Academy players a very Merry Christmas. See you all in the new year.
