Following back-to-back cup victories – including the Nathaniel MG Cup final – it’s JD Welsh Premier League (JD WPL) action this Friday (February 2 2018) as The New Saints embark on the short journey to The Rock.
With the league now divided into the Championship Conference (top six) and the Play-Off Conference (bottom six) there will be tough games ahead for all teams as the JD WPL enters the final furlong.
Friday’s opponents, Cefn Druids, made the cut courtesy of a MatchDay 22 0-0 at home to Llandudno. It really was a winner-take-all scenario as a victory for the Seasiders would have seen them leapfrog the Ancients into that coveted top-six spot.
The New Saints go into the fixture on a good run of form with five victories from five games in 2018. However, as always, although 22 points separate the sides there will be no complacency from The New Saints.
The two games that have been played between the sides so far this season have both ended in victories for The New Saints. Back in September 2017, a 4-0 victory at Park Hall with goals from Draper, Mullan, Seargeant and Spender was followed by a 3-1 on the road.
Draper was again on the scoresheet, initially with a brace, but one was later credited to Druids’ Eckersley as an own goal. Mullan scored the other goal for The New Saints.
TNS go into the game on Friday with a healthy lead at the top of the JD WPL, with a twelve-point lead over second placed Connah’s Quay Nomads. Bangor City and Bala Town, who share the same number of points in third and fourth respectively, find themselves fourteen adrift.
The game kicks off at 7.45 p.m. and we look forward to your support, as we look to make it seven consecutive JD WPL titles. The stadium address is Rock Road, Rhosymedre LL14 3YF.
If you are unable to make the match then why not follow proceedings on TNS Radio. The link is on the home page of our website and we go on air ahead of kick-off.
