‘One Ticket Spare For Tonight’s Game If You want it?’ began an email I received last Tuesday morning. The sender was Neil Clarke, the Managing Director of our main sponsors, RUKGroup, and the match in question was none other than the Champions League tie between Manchester United and Sevilla.
Funnily enough, with a free evening ahead of me I had been looking at Shifnal Town v Wednesfield in the West Midlands Regional League. Not a bad difference is there and I didn’t need asking twice.
Neil and Simon Marsden popped into The Venue at lunchtime to hand over the ticket. It was also an opportunity to meet Niels, a business contact from Denmark who was going to occupy the seat next to me that evening in the Sir Alex Ferguson Stand.
While at Park Hall, Wales international Steve Evans signed a programme for Niels, and of course we got some photographs for TNS social media.

Then it was on to Old Trafford, where I travelled alone but met Niels in the ground. I thoroughly enjoyed the experience and arrived at the stadium a couple of hours prior to kick-off to take in the atmosphere. I loved the statues, the images, everything. What touched me most though was the Munich Tunnel. Words are not needed.
It was great being there and imagine doing media at Manchester United, where every tweet, article and post is read by hundreds of thousands of fans. Still, I don’t hanker after such things. In fact, funnily enough I had a dream in the week where I was the media man at the noisy neighbours, Manchester City.
Whether in sleep or fully awake, my head is not turned though and this weekend I’m looking forward very much to the visit of Cefn Druids to Park Hall.
Back to the main thrust of the blog entry though, it’s wonderful how our links with RUKGroup have developed beyond just a business arrangement. Along with the aforementioned Neil and Simon, I would add Jayne Robb to the list of people from the company that I get on very well with.
I’m just thrilled that they thought of me when there was a spare ticket going, I really do appreciate it. The lead photograph is of course from Old Trafford. A selfie. Always a selfie.
