Following last weekend’s defeat to Airbus, it was back to business as usual for The New Saints FC Professional Phase players, with two Welsh Premier Development League fixtures for our Under-19s, writes Steve Benyon.
With there being no college game for either squad Wednesday, this week has seen all players take part in a mixture of recovery, strength and conditioning sessions and pitch-based technical and tactical sessions focusing on differing scenarios when defending. Wednesday saw coaches Si Smith and Jase Brindley put Thursday’s squad players against Bala Town through their match day preparations, consisting of possession based practices and set plays.
Thursday night saw the U-19s play at home to Bala Town Under-19s, knowing only a win would count towards the Phase’s objective of winning the Development League. The boys were tremendous and won the game 4-0, through goals from Kevin Kauber and Callum Jones. The performance was also pleasing due to the boys playing patient football against a good Bala side, and even reserving much needed energy ready for Sunday’s game away to Prestatyn Town.
Yesterday saw the squad travel away to Prestayn. With a number of players carrying tired legs, and a high number rested due to a County semi-final game next week, the boys performed well for manager Si, running out 6-1 winners to move 2 points clear at the top with a game still in hand over Airbus.
Goalscorers were Liam Parry (2), Guyguy, Harley, Izzy and Harry B. It proved to be a successful day all round for the club, with the first team lifting the JD Welsh Premier title for the seventh consecutive time. A huge well done to all the players and staff.
This coming week sees a number of Phase players representing their county away to Staffordshire, knowing a win or draw would result in a final against Humberside on April 29th.
The Phase players will also be on the pitch working on attacking headers and match prep on Wednesday for Thursday’s County Cup final vs Thomas Telford at Telford, kick-off 7.00 pm.
Sunday sees the boys also play Connah’s Quay Nomads Under-19s at home, the first of 3 huge games for the players.
