Congratulations to the TNS Professional Phase squad, who today (April 1, 2018) emulated the recent first team’s success by winning the JD Welsh Premier League, in their case the Development (North) version.
A lot has happened this week within the Professional Phase, writes Steve Benyon. Two weekends ago the squad travelled to Prestatyn Town, knowing only 3 points would do. The boys put on a quality performance, winning 6-1, and followed that up with a convincing 4-0 victory at home to Bala Town.
With their being no game last Sunday, we prepared during the week for our County Cup final on the Thursday against Thomas Telford. Unfortunately the game was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch, which meant attention then turned back to the huge game at home to Connah’s Quay Nomads (played today).
Knowing a win would seal the title, the boys started off quickly, racing into a 2-goal lead thanks to Liam Parry and Harry Bower, but were pegged back by a last minute penalty scored by ex-TNS player Joe Sullivan, to end the half 2-1 in front.
The boys were clearly up for the second half challenge and withstood pressure from the visitors, but killed the game off with a 3-minute hat-trick from Harry Bower to finish the game 5-1 in our favour, clinching the title.
Words cannot describe how immensely proud of my players I am, and also full credit must go to their parents who have supported both myself and the players throughout the season.
However we cannot forget about my wonderful staff. Assistant manager Simon Smith who has been an outstanding coach and mentor for the players, as well as Jason Brindley who’s continuous quality sessions have helped prepped the boys week in week out.
Also a massive thanks to Kieran Lee-Birch who has assisted both myself and the staff, Artur for filming and analysing the games, as well as Gregg Jones for the continued treatment applied to the squad and Geriant and Ed Harper for their professional strength and conditioning work.
My final thanks are for Scotty and Evo (Scott Ruscoe and Steve Evans). This season has seen our friendship tested, but I am so glad to have their continued support and guidance. Without them and their advice and support, this wouldn’t be possible.
Tuesday night (April 3, 2018) sees the boys at home to Bangor City in the Welsh Premier Development League, 8.00 p.m. kick-off, then the final game of the season against Llandudno at home on Sunday 8th April, with the presentation also taking place that day. Please come down and continue to support these incredible set of players at this brilliant club.
