Before he even comes to the end of his debut season as first team manager, Scott Ruscoe is already shaping the squad for the 2018/2019 campaign. Earlier today at Park Hall, two of the current first team players put pen-to-paper on extended contracts, as Dean Ebbe and Aeron Edwards pledged their immediate futures to The New Saints of Oswestry Town.
Signed in the January transfer window, Ebbe has made an immediate impact with five goals to his name so far, in three different competitions. Edwards, a long-standing regular in the side, recently featured for Wales in the C international against England at Jenner Park, Barry.
We caught up with Ruscoe, following training today, as we chatted first of all about Edwards. It’s been good to get his signing, we put to him, he’s been a loyal servant at The New Saints.
“Yes he has”, he immediately replied. “I know he’s only extending his contract but it’s a great capture. He’s been with us for several years now and I played with him as a player. He seems to be getting better with age and he trains well.”
“He’s put in some great performances this season, his goal return is good and he continues to consistently perform for us.” he concluded.
Then moving on to Ebbe, initially joining on a short-term deal, the Dublin-born striker impressed Scott enough to be offered a new contract. “He’s scored goals, he’s put in good performances. He mixes well with the rest of the players, he’s a likeable lad; he works hard and wants to do well” before finishing with the rhetorical question, “Why wouldn’t we want to give him a new contract?”
We then asked the manager, a popular figure at Park Hall, who has lifted two trophies in his first season in the dugout, whether there would be comings and goings ahead of the upcoming 2018/2019 campaign. “We’ve got a few boys coming in during the next few weeks and we’ve got a behind-closed-doors friendly planned where we can look at some of our trialists”, he told us.
“We’ve got four or five that we’re looking at, hopefully we can get some of those over the line ready for June 4 when we return to pre-season training.”
Everyone at The New Saints FC wished Aeron and Dean all the very best for the future. We will bring you further transfer news as soon as deals are completed.
