THE NEW SAINTS U19 2-2 LLANDUDNO U19
JD WELSH PREMIER DEVELOPMENT LEAGUE (NORTH)
PLAYED AT PARK HALL STADIUM, OSWESTRY
SUNDAY 8TH APRIL 2018
MATCH REPORT BY DAVID FIGG
The New Saints’ Under-19 team were unable to round off their JD Welsh Premier Development League (North) campaign on a winning note as they were held to a 2-2 home draw by Llandudno U19 at Park Hall Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
Saints had gone into the game having already won the title the previous Sunday, with Llandudno going into Sunday’s match in 6th place in the table.
Saints took the lead in the 20th minute when Ismael Ozdemir passed infield from the left to Chris Craven who took a touch before sending a cross-field ball towards the far side of the box, from where Matt Cole crossed for Liam Parry to turn the ball home off his right knee from 6 yards.
It was 2-0 in the 41st minute when Cole’s low ball infield from the right found Liam Parry who touched it to Craven, whose forward ball to the right of middle found Liam Parry whose left foot flick rebounded off Tudno’s Alex Brownhill and sat up nicely for Liam Parry to fire his left foot shot from 23 yards on the right into Tudno keeper Loui Harris’ top left hand corner for a stunning strike.
Then with 33 seconds of added time gone at the end of the first half, Tudno pulled a goal back when Morgan Owen fired a low right foot free kick from 23 yards into Saints keeper Lewis Dutton’s right hand corner.
Saints made a triple substitution to start the second half with Dennis Bates coming on for Cole, Lewis Kaye coming on for Sam Finley and Tomos Williams coming on for GuyGuy Maboy.
Llandudno also made a half time change with Sean McCaffrey coming on for Sam Thomas.
It was 2-2 in the 50th minute when Owen’s through ball down the middle found Joe Carey in acres of space to the right of middle and he ran on before cutting in and squaring low to his left to the unmarked Osian Jones, who took a touch before firing his low right foot shot from 12 yards into Dutton’s right hand corner.
There were no more goals after that and the game ended in a draw to leave Saints’ final title winning margin at 2 points, with Airbus UK Broughton ending as runners-up.
The Saints players were presented with their winners’ medals by Mr Peter Rees, the Chairman of the JD Welsh Premier League, before he presented the league championship trophy to Saints’ 3 captains during the season (Dennis Bates, Chris Craven and Lewis Kaye).
