As TNS Academy closes its doors on another successful season, the final Player Of The Month (POTM) awards have been presented. Well done to everyone that received recognition for their effort and contribution during the month of April.
The head of our Academy, Jason Brindley, gives us the rundown on each individual. Many thanks to first team midfield star, Tom Holland, for doing the presentation on the pitch at last week’s home game against Cardiff Metropolitan University FC.
Under-7s – Callum Wright
I have given Callum player of the month as he has been working really hard of late, not only physically but mentally getting involved in talks at training and giving some fantastic answers. He is really starting to understand the TNS way in recent weeks and he has really excelled, especially playing against others a year older than him.
Under-8s – Harry Nunnerley
POTM for April is Harry Nunnerley. A hard month with some tough games but Harry always gives 100% commitment and effort in the game no matter how it is is going. He leads by example and is always looking to continue playing the TNS way. Well done Harry!!
Under-9s – Theo Woodman
Theo always attends training and has a 100% attendance for matches. He’s keen to impress and is such a nice, respectful and polite boy. Plus, he’s taken on constructive areas of development maturely when been given coaching points about his positioning. Well done, Theo!
U-9s – Christian Hawkey (March POTM)
Under-10s – Louie Irving
Louie has been a rock at the back this past month, with strong performances in a few tough games. Never shying from a tackle, Louie always throws his body on the line for the team, and has been an ever-present in both training and games during the month.
He has developed into a great character this season, and more recently has shown some great leadership qualities, communicating with other players on the pitch and leading by example both on and off it. Louie always plays with a smile, and is always the first to help out whenever anyone needs a hand.
Well done Louie!
Under-11s – Callum Francis-Jones
Under-11s POTM goes to Callum Francis-Jones. Callum was instrumental in the age group’s recent international tournament in France, winning the golden boot and scoring some amazing goals in the process, including a volley from just inside the opposition half against Lille. Callum recently hurt his knee in a rugby accident and we wish him a very speedy recovery.
Under-12s – Ethan Brown
Well done to U-12s player Ethan. Ethan shows a great attitude and commitment to training. He is an ever-present and works tirelessly for his team. He has had some standout performances over the past month and fully deserves his award. Well done Ethan.
Under-13s – Lewis Donaghy
Lewis gives 110% in every single training session, which shows in the weekend fixtures. His attitude, work ethic and intelligence is very impressive. Lewis plays with confidence and is very reliable in sometimes a difficult part of the pitch, but always makes it look so easy. Not only does he show great characteristics and skill sets like a TNS 1st team player, he is also a polite, well-mannered and a funny young man also. Well done Lewis.
Under-14s – Billy Kirkham
Billy has been a consistent performer for our U-14s all season but has taken his performances to a whole new level during April. Billy had the game of his life against Connah’s Quay Nomads in the North Wales Academy Cup final and played outstandingly versus Port Vale, despite carrying a little knock. Billy has a fantastic attitude and is incredibly committed to our Academy programme.
Under-15s – Jack Parry
JP has worked hard in the gym and out on the pitch in recent weeks and he has been rewarded with some great performances, notably in the tournament held in France, and against Connah’s Quay Nomads where he also scored a 30 yard screamer!
He has taken on feedback from coaches in a positive way, proactively working towards areas for improvement.
Well done JP!
Under-16s – Ethan Short
Ethan has made a tremendous impact since joining The New Saints Academy. He has an infectious personality, is very bubbly, and matches that with a great work rate. He is everywhere on the field and has good technical ability also. He’s added goals to his game as well, scoring two very good goals in the recent fixture against Airbus.
Professional Phase – Harry Bower
POTM for the Professional Phase is Harry Bower. Harry has played a lot of football recently, including Category 1 games, Under-19s fixtures, England and first team games. A special highlight was scoring four against Connah’s Quay, including a 3-minute hat trick which saw us clinch the title.
Jason Brindley commented:
“Well done to all our Academy players of the month for April. This is the final month of what has been an excellent season for all involved at the football club. I am very proud to see the way all our players have developed over the past 12 months, not only as players but also as people, with cracking personalities.
It was good to see U-19s player Harry Bower on the bench for the first team, I made sure he got his award at half-time; it was quite funny as that’s probably the first time ever a player receiving the award was on the bench for our first team at the time.
It’s great for our youth players to get these opportunities. I’d like to thank all our players, parents and coaching staff for a great year and we are excited for what the future holds.”
