Croeso i Abermaw, Flying The TNS Flag In Barmouth – Rev’s Ramblings

Last week I had a holiday in Barmouth, with my wife, Debby. With a Huws Gray Cymru Alliance fixture on the Saturday between Porthmadog and Holywell Town, a visit to Y Traeth was my final groundhopping game of 2017/2018, a season that has seen a total of 51 new grounds added to my list.

Apart from that, and still posting daily updates on the TNS site as well as other stuff, I didn’t get away from football completely, as every time I dressed in the morning it was club clothing I took from the suitcase.

I do feel very comfortable wearing that sort of thing anyway. It’s nice to dress for the occasion, as per the recent awards dinner, but given the choice it’s shorts, football top and trainers for me.

Since being at The New Saints, every holiday I’ve had has been in Wales and every one I’ve dressed the same. Yet in all that time, only once have I ever had anyone make a comment. That was in Asda’s Kinmel Bay store three years ago when one of the workers started a conversation.

It turned out that he was a match official in the previously mentioned Huws Gray Cymru Alliance, the second tier of Welsh football. Funnily enough that weekend, he told me, he was officiating at a Holywell Town game.

Although we’ve come a long way in Welsh football, it shows there’s still so much more territory to take. I look forward to the time I go on holiday in Wales and people continually stop me and make a comment about The New Saints shirt I’m wearing.

In fact, it’s not just about TNS but the game as a whole. Although I’ve only been stopped once regarding my shirt, I’ve never seen another club top while I’ve been on my holidays.

Out and about this summer? Not only wear your your heart on your sleeve but also let the shirt on your back do some talking as well.
