Looking ahead to the upcoming season, we are pleased to announce the first new signing of 2018/2019, as we welcome Danny Redmond to Park Hall.
The 27-year-old Liverpudlian began his career in the Everton Academy, before moving to Wigan Athletic in 2009. Two years later, in January 2011, he made his debut for The Latics, coming on as a substitute in the FA Cup win at Hull City.
Before leaving the club in 2014, he played a number of times, including games against AFC Bournemouth and Manchester City. Fans of the game in England may be familiar with the name Steve Redmond – who is Danny’s father – who in his own career featured in 200 plus games for the latter.
While at Wigan, the midfielder had loan spells at Hamilton Academical and Carlisle United and it was to the former he moved on a permanent deal in 2014. Having featured regularly in the Scottish Premiership, with 86 top flight appearances, Danny has now completed his move to The New Saints.
We will conduct a full interview in due course, but we had a quick chat with our new signing earlier today. “I’m delighted to sign for TNS” he told us, before continuing, “They are a successful team that likes to play football, which suits me.”
“I can’t wait to get started and meet the staff and players. I’m also looking forward to the Champions League, which will be a new test for me,” as he focused on the challenge of the immediate future.
Thrilled with his first capture ahead of the new season, Scott Ruscoe spoke exclusively to us this morning: “I am excited by the signing of Danny Redmond and what he can bring to the football club.” he began.
“He is a player that can play in a number of positions, but the major factors in the decision to sign him were his enthusiasm, determination and what he can do in possession for us. He is an undoubtedly talented player that we look forward to having with us.”
Welcome to Park Hall, Danny. More new signings will be announced in due course.
