This time last week (as I write on a Monday afternoon) we had just arrived at our base in the Algarve for four days of training and, as far as the players are concerned, some very hard work ahead.
I was there to cover the camp for TNS media and if you follow our Facebook page, Twitter account or website then you will already have had a comprehensive insight into what went on in Portugal. From the gym to the training pitch, the dining room to the airports, we covered the experience extensively.
What impressed me very much is the depth that we have in the squad. No disrespect to any previous set-ups intended but I do think this is the strongest that we’ve had in my time at the club in terms of consistency of squad.
When I watched the 11 versus 11 in-house friendly that was played, there were no weak links. If someone was looking on and didn’t know who was on the pitch they would thought that they were two different teams, both of equal level.
Scott Ruscoe and Steve Evans have assembled a squad with such depth, in my view, that players will come in and out and the consistency will remain. The immediate future – and beyond – looks very healthy indeed for The New Saints.
