The second leg of the UEFA Champions League game against KF Shkëndija takes place this coming Tuesday (July 17, 2018) at Park Hall. After losing 5-0 on the road in Skopje, Scott Ruscoe’s side face a mountain of Everest proportions to climb if they are to progress in the competition.
The game itself saw Ben Cabango and Danny Redmond in the starting line-up, with Kurtis Byrne and Kane Lewis coming an as second-half substitutes as the new signings made their competitive club debuts.
The Macedonians won their league by 35 points in 2017/2018. In a ten-team league, the clubs play each other four times and with 101 goals scored, 27 conceded and just 3 defeats along the way, the Tetovo-based club ran up pretty impressive statistics as they secured their second top-flight title. Their first was in 2010/2011 when they went on to lose 5-0 on aggregate to Partizan Belgrade in the second qualifying round of the UEFA Champions League.
Back to the present though and the winners of the current tie go through to play either Topedo Kutaisi or Sheriff in the next round. With the Georgians taking a slender 2-1 lead to Moldova, it is still delicately balanced. The games will be played over the following two weeks with Tuesday or Wednesday the designated days.
The losers from the TNS and Shkëndija game go on to play the champions of Gibraltar in the UEFA Europa League. The opponents will be Lincoln Red Imps and the games will be on July 26 and August 2. Both Thursdays, the first leg will be at Park Hall / Skopje with the return a week later in Gibraltar.
