This Thursday (August 2, 2018) sees the champions of Gibraltar entertain their Welsh counterparts in a fixture that currently has the latter ahead by just one goal. Following the 2-1 victory at Park Hall, The New Saints go into the match with the slenderest of leads, courtesy of an early goal from Dean Ebbe and a second-half Blaine Hudson header.
The match, which is being played at Victoria Stadium in the British Overseas Territory, kicks off at 7.00 p.m. local time. Gibraltar is one hour ahead of the United Kingdom, therefore the all-important time for TNS fans back home is 6.00 p.m.
The stadium – which all teams in the Gibraltar Football League call home – was opened in 1926. It was rebuilt in 1971 and then developed further twenty years later.
It is a multi-sports facility in the truest sense, with top level athletics, cricket and rugby union having all featured there. For football fans though it will be remembered most as the scene of Celtic’s 1-0 defeat at the hands of Lincoln Red Imps in 2016.
Fortunately for the Glaswegians they had a second bite of the UEFA Champions League cherry and the 1-0 defeat on the road was followed by a 3-0 victory at home.
We are currently awaiting news from Lincoln Red Imps as to whether the game against The New Saints is being shown live. However, regardless of the outcome TNS Radio will be bringing full match commentary. The link is here on our website home page and we will be on air ahead of kick-off.
