Academy Players Of The Month – July

Yesterday, we celebrated our Academy players of the month at our first team’s opening JD Welsh Premier League fixture, against Barry Town United.

The winners enjoyed complimentary hospitality and were presented with their trophy on the pitch at half time by Saints’ striker Dean Ebbe.

Head of Academy, Jason Brindley, talks us through all those picking up awards.

Under 7 – Jack Lamb

Jack Lamb has been an ever present at training, always answers questions and plays with a smile on his face. He is always adapting and taking new challenges in his stride.

Even at this early age, and being a part of one of youngest academy age groups, Jack is showing a great understanding of the TNS DNA. He has also shown great character and determination to bounce back from a recent lapse in his confidence.

Under 8 – Daniel Thelwell

Daniel is a very talented young boy with an infectious personality. Known by his Coaches and peers as DT, Daniel tries his best in every training session and match.

During the month of July, Daniel’s been on top form with some excellent performances vs Newtown and Flint in particular.

Under 9 – Luke Hodge

Luke Hodge has excellent training and game attendance with great attitude in both.

He is always looking to play with the TNS DNA, playing out from the back. Great displays during games and he is always looking to play out from the back.

He has had some superb performances recently, including the Manchester Cup, and is looking forward to facing Swansea next weekend.

Under 10 – Cruz Jones

Congratulations to our U10 player Cruz on winning player of the month for July. Cruz has had some impressive performances, scoring some brilliant goals but also working hard for his team.

Cruz has an infectious bubbly personality and that shows at every contact.

Under 11 – Aden Jones

Aden is an exceptionally talented player and has really shown this during July, with his fantastic displays against Kidderminster and in the Manchester Cup. Playing up a year, he has been challenged to play faster, against more physical, older players and he has improved massively because of this.

He is courageous to get the ball, and incredibly creative on it, usually nut-megging anyone within a 10m radius! A great compliment to get is to be admired by the opposition, and during the Manchester Cup, I was told by an opposition parent that “he is the most exciting player they’ve seen in a while,” which is testament to his fantastic attitude, as well as his ability.

Under 12 – Tom Hughes

Tom is a new player to our U12s and has made a great impact since joining our football club. Tom has shown an excellent commitment already to our training and fixture programme, becoming an ever-present.

Tom has already started showing signs of our TNS DNA, being more relaxed in possession and looking to play. A great addition to a good group of players.

Under 13 – James Rainbird

James is another new addition to our Academy, joining in the summer. James has had some standout performances already in his short time with our football club.

James adds great balance to the team, has good close control and an eye for a killer pass. James is a determined player with a hunger to succeed.

He has also scored a couple of superb goals and we look forward to assisting his development and challenging him this season.

Under 14 – Osian Williams

Since coming back from his injury, he has scored crucial goals in style, and the effort he has shown has been really impressive. The creativity that Osian brings on the pitch is extremely exciting and his great humour off the pitch is a joy to be around also.

Osian is in his second season with our football club and he is fully ingrained in our philosophy and playing style, which suit Osian’s own playing characteristics.

Under 15 – Alfie Cunningham

Alfie’s been in great form since joining us in the summer. He’s a very driven, tenacious and hardworking individual who possesses a great eye for a pass and amazing ability to keep the ball in tight areas.

Alfie’s a winner and brings this mentality to every training session and fixture. We’re looking very forward to working with Alfie over the coming months.

Under 16 – Will Nevitt

Will Nevitt has been in impressive form already this season, picking up where he left off last. Will has a fantastic attitude and is a very important player for our eldest Academy age group.

Scoring some impressive goals, Will always looks likely in every game and offers a lot, with a great work ethic also. Congratulations Will.

Under 19 – Aaron Lloyd

During a busy and challenging pre-season so far, Azza like many of the other performance phase players, has really shone through, adapting well to life as a performance phase player. He’s performed well against senior forward opposition players and in all honesty, held his own really well.

Comfortable in possession when initiating attacks from our goal kicks, Azza has shown a real eye for third line  passes, as well as the occasionally diagonal pass, to get our forward players in behind the oppositions defensive line.

Against Tranmere Rovers Under 18’s, he played the second half as 1 of the 3 central midfielders and was instrumental in the team performance.

Speaking afterwards, Jason said:

“Congratulations to all our Youth players on receiving player of the month for July. We have had an excellent pre-season across the board with more fixtures and training session than ever before.

“We’ve increased our Academy training programme without including pre-season, so our football provision is better than ever. With more UEFA qualified coaches also, the quality of sessions has also increased, with so much more detail put into session planning, linking into individual Development Plans for each and every one of our players.

“Player of the month isn’t just chosen on performances on the pitch but also attitude off it. We have our ‘TNS Culture’ and ‘TNS Mentality’ which makes up elements of our ‘TNS DNA’. Our DNA isn’t just how we play, our unique playing style adapted through all our age groups, but also what a TNS player should look like, on and off the pitch.

“With lots of new players joining our club, we have made a huge effort to embed them all with our identity and I feel we are already seeing this. Relationships are forming and the changing rooms are always buzzing with energy, which is great to see and hear. I’m looking forward to what promises to be an exciting season for our Football Club.”
