Llongyfarchiadau, Ben Cabango

Central defender, Ben Cabango, on loan from Swansea City has received a call-up for the Wales U-19 squad to play two matches against their Republic of Ireland counterparts.

The games will be played in September on Sunday 9th and Tuesday 11th. The full squad can be viewed below with ex-TNS Academy youngster, Jack Vale, also on the list.

We chatted with Ben regarding his call-up.

TNS: Ben, first of all congratulations. It didn’t come as a big surprise though, as you’ve been involved with the national set-up for a while.

BenThank you, yeah brilliant news for myself. It’s always a great feeling to get called up to play for my country!

TNS: Give us a brief insight into what goes on behind the scenes when you attend a squad gathering like this.

BenWell, we all meet up usually at Dragon Park. It’s always nice to see all the boys again and the coaches. Usually we have a team meeting straight away about how we are going to play and what they expect from the camp. Then obviously we get into the games.

TNS: How does it feel to wear the red shirt of Wales as you represent your country?

Ben: It’s an amazing feeling to put on the Welsh shirt and represent my country! I feel proud of myself putting on the shirt, it means a lot to me.

TNS: You’ve progressed through the system. It’s now the U-19s, are we going to see Ben Cabango full international one day?

BenYeah, I’ve had the pleasure to go through the age groups and now at U19s level I’m getting closer! Hopefully I can just keep pushing and improving my game and maybe one day I will be able to!

TNS: One step at a time, Ben, for now all the very best from all of us at The New Saints FC in the upcoming games.

BenThank you!
