Going into the Bala Town game this week, The New Saints is currently on an excellent run of form. The goals scored have been exceptional, with 17 the last four games alone.
However, for me personally, whilst not taking away from the net-finding exploits at one end, I’m very much impressed at what’s been going on at the other.
With just two goals conceded so far in six JD Welsh Premier, the last four fixtures have all been clean sheets. If you speak to strikers they want to score lots of goals and the team to win. However, chat with any defender, and given the choice, it’s a 1-0 victory every time over a 5-3.
What we have been witnessing at The New Saints though is the best of both worlds. Conceding just twice so far this season, we have scored 22 goals, including two 6-0 victories in the last four matches.
It’s the clean sheets that have impressed me personally though. As individual matches have worn on I have found myself hoping we don’t concede rather than just wishing we score more.
I’m loving the wins, I’m loving the points and I’m loving the goals that we are scoring. I’m also loving the clean sheets. Long may that continue.
