It’s a 1st v 2nd encounter at Park Hall on Saturday, October 20 2018, as The New Saints of Oswestry Town host Connah’s Quay Nomads in the JD Welsh Premier League (JD WPL). With just two points separating the sides, any result other than a defeat will keep the Nomads in pole position. On the other hand, TNS need a win to leapfrog their rivals.
Following their Irn-Bru Cup victory over the weekend, Andy Morrison’s team was in action on Tuesday this week. A shock was on the cards as the visitors to Deeside Stadium, Cefn Druids, went into the break with a 1-0 lead. Failing to convert a penalty cost them dearly though, as the hosts ran out 3-1 winners in the end.
A day later, it was Scott Ruscoe’s team that took to the pitch, with Llandudno FC the visitors to Park Hall. An emphatic 6-1 victory saw the temporary gap of five points reduced once again to two.
The JD WPL’s leading goalscorers with 32 to date, The New Saints have a plus goal difference (25) equal to that of all other clubs that are in the black combined. That statistic has been aided and abetted by the fact that the tightest defence in the league has been breached on just seven occasions.
The New Saints will be playing in the familiar green and white hoops with white shorts and socks. The goalkeeper will be in a blue and orange shirt with blue shorts and socks.
The officials for the game are as follows: Dean John (referee), Ian Bird and Bryn Jones (assistants) and Iwan Griffiths (4th official).
Kick-off is 7.30 p.m. and admission charges are £8 for adults, £4 concessions and £1 juniors. The game is also live on S4C’s Sgorio.
