A report by Steve Benyon
On Sunday October 21st, 15 of the Performance Phase players faced Caernarfon at home in the Welsh Premier Development League fixture.
The players and staff were looking for another positive performance after a brilliant week’s worth of training and last Sunday’s victory against Bangor City.
The players knew they would expect a tough game against a Caernarfon side who celebrated their first win last week against Bala. We started the game off well, creating a number of chances and went ahead through Lewis Rees.
We continued to play some exciting football and scored 3 further well worked team goals through Ethan Short, and another 2 from Lewis Rees to complete a first-half hat trick.
At half-time, the staff spoke about a lot of good things that we had witnessed, encouraged the players to be more clinical in front of goal and to keep on going.
The second-half proved just that with the boys scoring a further 3 goals through substitute Finley Jeffries, Caddy [Alex Cadman] and first-team player Sarge [Chris Seargeant], who was extremely professional throughout.
A slight damper on proceedings was a poor goal to concede through 3 individual errors, but we ran out convincing 7-1 winners.
What was pleasing today, was again the positive impact made by all 3 subs and the relationships continuing to form between the players.
As a management team, we had to unfortunately leave a number of players out, but they were exceptionally professional with this decision.
We need to work on game management which we all agreed on, but can take massive positives from today’s game, which was clearly evident on the players’ faces at full-time.
We now move onto another big week with a game against LTE in the Category 1 National Cup.
