On Wednesday October 24th, 15 of the Performance Phase players faced LTE Manchester at home in the first round of the ESFA National Cup.
The boys were coming into the game off the back of one away victory and one narrow away loss last week, as well as a 7-1 demolition of Caernarfon on Sunday in the Welsh Premier Development League.
With a number of players involved in either Tuesday night games with their loan club or external trials, it was a chance to provide an opportunity to some players off the back of impressive performances in training and EDS 2 squad games.
The message was simple… avenge last season’s 4-3 loss today, but also show respect to a side who reached last year’s final.
The response was superb, playing fast-flowing football and being rewarded with two brilliant goals through Ethan Short and captain Liam Ihekwoaba.
In all honesty, the half-time scoreline of 2-0 flattered the visitors, with some brilliant saves from the away goalkeeper and some chances missed. Our goalkeeper Lewis Dutton wasn’t tested at all.
The second-half was a completely different affair with a combination of questionable decision-making and situations both on and off the ball. It resulted in the hosts pulling two goals back, after a Harry Bower goal had made the score 3-0.
We managed to hang on and record a 3-2 victory to move into Round 2 away against Everton LTE.
