On Tuesday, October 30 2018, The New Saints FC takes another step towards retaining the Nathaniel MG Cup. The lead image, courtesy of Brian Jones, shows Scott Ruscoe and Steve Evans lifting the trophy following the 1-0 victory against Cardiff Metropolitan University FC, last January.
The Jamie Mullan goal, at Aberystwyth Town’s Park Avenue, ensured that the management duo got their hands on their first piece of silverware since taking on the roles of manager and assistant manager respectively at the club in the previous summer.
Park Hall has become a familiar home for the trophy, with The New Saints looking to make it five consecutive final wins on the bounce this season.
The next hurdle to overcome though is Iwan Williams’ Llandudno FC. They find themselves in the quarter-finals courtesy of a 5-3 win on the road at Huws Gray Alliance side, Rhyl FC. The game at Belle Vue, on October 2, was played in front of a crowd of 160.
Prior to that it was another fellow north Wales coast side that the aptly-named Seasiders overcame. Again it was away from home, this time at Bangor City, as Llandudno triumphed in a 1-0 August victory.
The New Saints’ single fixture to date in the competition was a convincing 5-0 win at Bastion gardens, the home of Prestatyn Town. A Josh Hmami brace ensured that Scott Ruscoe and Steve Evans’ hopes of lifting the trophy for the second season on the trot remained very much alive.
The game at the Giant Hospitality Stadium tomorrow kicks off at 7.45 p.m. If you are not there in person, don’t miss out, as TNS Radio will be bringing you commentary via the link on the home page of our website.
