We don’t have to go back very far for this one, August 31 2018 to be precise, as the reigning JD Welsh Premier League (JD WPL) champions made their way along the A55 to take on new boys, Caernarfon Town.
Following a very successful season in the Huws Gray Cymru Alliance, where they tasted defeat just once, Sean Eardley’s side came into the top flight with lots of confidence bubbling away throughout the club.
The Friday night fixture at The Oval witnessed a four-figure crowd, which was the 10th highest in the history of the Welsh Premier League since its inception as the League of Wales in 1992.
With the crowd spurring them on, and a good start to the league campaign with two wins from three games, the home side started energetically as they looked to put TNS on the back foot.
Thanks to some excellent work from goalkeeper and captain, Paul Harrison, it looked like the first half would remain goalless though. However, with just two minutes to go before the break, Dean Ebbe broke the deadlock from the edge of the six-yard box as he tucked away a cross from the right.
Not to be discouraged, the hosts almost levelled the scores five minutes into the second period but for more heroics from Captain Fantastic. As we approached the two-thirds stage of the game though, the current JD WPL Player Of The Season, Jamie Mullan, made it 2-0 as he got on the end of a superb pass from Ebbe.
Coming off the bench with a quarter of an hour to go, within five minutes Greg Draper had wrapped up the points for the champions as he lobbed the keeper for his fifth JD WPL goal of the season.
