All games are important, of course, but the fixture this coming Saturday (November 17, 2018) carries added weight. Not only is it a second v third clash but the reigning JD Welsh Premier League (JD WPL) champions go into the game on a disappointing run of form.
Just one point from a possible nine has seen The New Saints FC slip from pole position to third, as both Saturday’s hosts and Connah’s Quay Nomads have taken advantage of the situation to push on themselves.
Speaking to TNS TV following last weekend’s defeat at home to Caernarfon Town, vice-captain, Chris Marriott, emphasised the importance of getting back on track as far as winning is concerned. “It’s going to be a very, very tough game. We’ve got to roll up our sleeves and win any way that we can. Whether we win ugly or whether it’s playing the expansive football that we’re known for, it’s about the three points.”
The last time Gavin Chesterfield’s side tasted JD WPL defeat was on October 6, 2018 when they lost 2-0 at Latham Park.
This season The Linnets have made Jenner Park a fortress, winning all six of their JD WPL games to date. In with the victories is a 2-0 win against current league leaders, Connah’s Quay Nomads.
Although on a poor run, Scott Ruscoe’s side is still leading the way with goals scored (36) and the 10 conceded makes The New Saints the tightest defence in the league.
Kick-off is 2.30 p.m. and if you’re not there in person then you can follow the action via TNS Radio, with the link here on the home page of our website.
