Cambrian & Clydach Vale BGC v The New Saints FC – Match Preview

The second trip to south Wales for The New Saints FC in the space of a week, sees the side head to the Rhondda Valley this time round.

The game (Friday, November 23) against Cambrian & Clydach Vale Boys & Girls Club, is the first Nathaniel MG Cup semi-final of the weekend, with Connah’s Quay Nomads and Cardiff Metropolitan University FC going head-to-head the following day.

Football in Wales, although national at the top level (JD Welsh Premier League), is regionalised beyond that. In the north there is the Huws Gray Cymru Alliance, while the southern counterpart is the Welsh Football League Division One, sponsored by Nathaniel MG Cars.

Our opponents on Friday currently sit in 5th place in a 16-team league with seventeen points from ten games, five off the leaders, Penybont. The battle at the top is just as tight as the JD Welsh Premier League, with just two points separating the leading four sides.

With three top flight scalps (Barry Town United, Aberystwyth Town and Newtown AFC) so far in the competition, Cambrian & Clydach will be looking to continue the run of home wins.

With both sides just ninety minutes away from the final, there is much at stake. The Nathaniel MG Cup currently resides at Park Hall, following the victory against Cardiff Metropolitan University FC in the 2017/2018 final.

Having lifted the trophy in each of the last four seasons, and a total of nine times overall, Scott Ruscoe’s side is the most successful in the history of the competition. Currently sponsored by Nathaniel Cars the Welsh League Cup was birthed in 1992/1993, the same season as the JD Welsh Premier League came into existence, known then as the League of Wales. .

The game at The M&P Group 3G Stadium has a kick-off time of 7.45 p.m. For TNS FC supporters’ travel arrangements, contact:
