The last time that the sides took to the field of play wasn’t a happy encounter as far as The New Saints is concerned. Having been replaced by Connah’s Quay Nomads at the top of the JD Welsh Premier League (JD WPL), following their victory against Carmarthen Town the day before, a win for Scott Ruscoe’s outfit would have seen them back in pole position.
However, it wasn’t to be, as the reigning champions lost 4-1 on a Sunday afternoon in the capital in front of the Sgorio cameras.
Following two close-range goals with 25 and 37 minutes on the clock, it was The Archers who went into the break with a comfortable 2-0 lead. Just eight minutes into the second period, the lead was extended as Snaith grabbed his second of the game to put the home side further ahead.
Things went from bad to worse, when with just eight minutes to go, it was all over bar the shouting, as the lead became an impressive 4-0.
Although the JD WPL’s golden boot, Greg Draper, pulled one back in the dying minutes the game ended 4-1 to Cardiff Met.
The game brought a run of five consecutive clean sheets to an end. After the final whistle, as well as manager, Scott Ruscoe, we also chatted with experienced full-back, Simon Spender. You can watch that below.
