TNS FC Foundation Update With Gill Jones

With less than a month to go until Christmas, our attentions here in the Foundation are turning to end of term activities within Schools, and the various community events and activities we will be offering and getting involved with over the festive period.  These have started today with our entry once again of a float in Oswestry’s Annual Christmas Parade.

The Parade is a great opportunity to showcase not only the work of the Foundation, but also the facilities and offers here at The Venue – thanks to all those who have been involved in the preparations and decoration of the float, and also to all those who took part – in particular all those Academy players and coaches who braved the weather to be on the float!   Look out for lots of photographs in due course.

Once again this year we will be offering a full programme of activities over the Christmas holidays for young people in Weston Rhyn, Gobowen, St Martins and Ellesmere – all taking the form of a giant Christmas Party. Many thanks to all those funders who have made these activities possible through their support for our provision.  We will be out and about as follows:

Monday 31st December 2018 – All Saints Church Hall, Gobowen 12-2pm

Wednesday 2nd January 2019 – St Martins Centre 12 – 2pm

Thursday 3rd January 2019 – Weston Rhyn Institute 12 – 2pm

Friday 4th January 2019 – Ellesmere Rangers FC 12 – 2pm

For further information please contact Naomi.stocker@tnsfcfoundation.org.uk

We will be making our usual visit with the First Team to the Children’s Ward of the Robert Jones and Agnes Hunt Orthopaedic Hospital on Wednesday 12th December, and will be taking part in the Friends of Gobowen School Christmas event on Thursday 13th December.

Saturday 22nd December sees us providing a ‘Christmas Drop and Shop’ service for any families wanting to do some last minute Christmas shopping, whilst their children have a fun time here at The Venue doing Christmas activities – so a busy time for the Team – but one which we all enjoy.

We are also just about to re-launch our Gobowen and Weston Rhyn youth provision – offering Monday night drop in youth cafes in both locations – this is a further exciting development which we have been able to take forward as a result of support from both the Big Lottery and the Local Authority.  For more information please contact Wayne.greenshields@tnsfcfoundation.org.uk

Finally, just a peek into the New Year – we have recently been advised that we are the first club in the Welsh Premier League to receive Football Foundation funding support to develop our junior fan base.  We have some really exciting plans in place for the coming months, including the creation of a dedicated junior ‘fanzone’ at The Venue, pre-match activities, etc., so look out for updates over the coming weeks.

As part of this, we plan to make much greater use of our club mascots, and we would love to hear from any budding actors, dancers or comedians who would be interested in donning a mascot outfit at our games – please get in touch if you would like to find out more – gill.jones@tnsfcfoundation.org.uk.

And finally, finally – not to forget our older residents, the work of our Healthy Lifestyles Co-Ordinator is growing all the time.  As a result of her qualification earlier this year as a Postural Stability Instructor, she has started a number of new, popular ‘Senior Saints’ sessions, which offer people the chance of a social get-together, together with supervised exercises which help to develop core strength and stability, thereby minimising risk of falls – we now have five classes running across the area, and are planning to open more.
