The year 2018 was one of significant growth for the Foundation, and one which we will be aiming to consolidate and build on in the forthcoming year. In particular, we are looking forward to developing our work with TNS Ladies to grow girls football participation, and also to growing our local schools partnerships, writes Gill Jones.
Over the past week or so, continuing our programme of free school holiday provision, we have been providing Christmas party activities across the area – thanks to funding support from Three Parishes Big Local, Connexus Housing Group, Tesco Bags of Help Initiative, Star Housing, Shropshire Council Local Joint Committee, St Martins Parish Council, Par 5 Foundation and Gobowen Youth Opportunity Fund.
As with previous holiday provision, we have offered fun activities for children and young people of all abilities in Gobowen, Weston Rhyn, St Martins and Ellesmere, together with a Christmas party lunch.
Work and discussions are now underway with various potential funders to identify ways of continuing the holiday sessions during 2019 – if you know of any organisation which might be interested in either sponsoring or donating towards this provision please get in touch – it is very much valued and appreciated by local families – particularly during the longer school holidays when the costs of childcare and food become a very real challenge for so many.
A big thanks also to all those first team players who have attended our activities leading up to and over the Christmas period – it means so much to the children and young people to meet their football heroes.
Looking forward now, we’ve got a very exciting January planned, with the launch of two new weekly youth cafes in Gobowen and Weston Rhyn; a new youth project starting in Whittington in partnership with the local parish council; and the launch of our Junior Fanzone coming towards the end of January at The Venue.
None of these would be possible without the support of so many local and national funders – a big thanks to all who have shown confidence in the Foundation to make a real difference to the lives of local young people. Over the coming months we will be reporting our progress on all these projects, but in the meantime if you would like to find out more about any of them please get in touch either with myself or our youth and community co-ordinator, Wayne.email@example.com
We are also just finalising arrangements to extend our walking football family, with the launch of regular walking football sessions in Weston Rhyn. We have been working very closely with local Parish Councillor Angela Bright who does such sterling work in the village, and who has been gathering local support for the sessions. We’re very much looking forward to this new Saturday morning provision – do get in touch if you’d like to find out more.
So….. just a flavour of some of the things to come in 2019 – look out for our updates over the coming weeks at www.tnsfc.co.uk/foundation. We wish you all a healthy, happy and prosperous New Year
