Barry Town United 0 The New Saints FC 2
JD Welsh Premier League
November 17 2018
Although we don’t have to go back far in time – November 17, 2018, to be precise – nevertheless it was a game that carried great weight as far as The New Saints was concerned.
Going into the fixture on the back of three JD Welsh Premier League matches that had yielded just one point between them, it was vital that the reigning champions got back on track, especially at fortress Jenner Park where the home side had an impressive 100% record at that time, having won six out of six in the league.
In the end though it was smiles all round as far as the visitors were concerned, as the first league win in almost a month ensured that it was a happy team bus making its way back to Park Hall following the game.
It took the last quarter of an hour though before the deadlock was broken when Simon Spender was pulled back in the area, with the referee immediately pointing to the spot. Not only did Greg Draper slot home but Momodou Touray received a red card for the foul, meaning that not only were they behind but the Linnets had the added disadvantage of seeing the game out with ten men.
It took just three minutes for the extra man to make a difference as an Adrian Cieslewicz cross from the left found the head of Joash Nembhard as the defender powered the visitors into a 2-0 lead.
That’s how the game ended, with not only the poor run of form coming to an end but The New Saints also returning to the summit of the table.
