TNS FC Foundation Update With Gill Jones

It’s hard to believe that already we are midway through February, and next week sees us delivering our programme of half-term school holiday activities across north-west Shropshire.   As usual, we will be offering free activities with a healthy lunch included in Gobowen, Weston Rhyn, St Martins and Ellesmere, and two hours of free activities in Cae Glas Park and on Gatacre Playing Field in Oswestry.

We are keeping our fingers crossed that the weather is kind to us – with daffodil buds bursting and the days lengthening – the week of activities encourages us all to think about getting outdoors and increasing our activity levels.  The holiday activity sessions cater for young people aged 4 to 14 years – please encourage any young people you know to come along and have fun with us. Contact us for more details or check our Facebook page.

We have some exciting new projects kicking off during February – one of which involves us working with partners and young people in Whittington to develop a youth engagement project. With the support of Staffordshire Community Foundation, we have secured funding which will be used to develop a youth social impact project – involving young people in coming up with plans for their area.

The first two meetings and youth project taster sessions will be held on Thursday 21st and Thursday 28th February in Whittington Senior Citizens Hall at 7pm – do come along to find out more, and encourage any young people you know to come and take a look.  For further information contact wayne.greenshields@tnsfcfoundation.org.uk

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been busy making sure we meet all accreditation requirements to continue our Mini Saints, Junior Saints and Girls SSE Wildcats sessions.  Mini Saints and Junior Saints are part of the FAW Trust’s McDonald’s Fun Football Programme.  SSE Wildcats is an FA programme, which we are supported to delivery by Shropshire FA.

Ideal for young aspiring footballers, Mini Saints offers football development activities for 4 – 9 year olds, and Junior Saints caters for those aged 9 years +.  SSE Wildcats offers fun football skills development for girls aged 4 – 11 years.  For further information about all our fun football programmes contact Danny.bell@tnsfc.co.uk.

Finally, we have plans afoot to hold a walking football festival later in the year.  Further information will be forthcoming shortly.  In the meantime, if you are interested in trying out walking football do come along to The Venue on a Thursday night – to find out more contact shelly.mcglinchey@tnsfcfoundation.org.uk.

We are also hopeful that we will be shortly be introducing a Saturday morning walking football session at Weston Rhyn – keep an eye on our website and facebook pages for further information.
