Time certainly flies and it’s hard to believe that it’s more than a year since Sam Wood joined me working on the media side of things at The New Saints.
I first had contact with Sam way back when we were on the run of wins that eventually saw us make the Guinness World Records, for the most consecutive victories (27) in the history of top flight world football.
A media student at Staffordshire University, Sam contacted us to ask if he could come to a training session and conduct some interviews with players as part of his project work. Of course, the answer was yes, and the time with us was productive as he interviewed Phil Baker, Ryan Brobbel and Alex Darlington.
Fast forward to December 2017 and needing to get some work experience in as part of his course, it was back to Park Hall and working on match days.
Sam fitted in very well, so much so in fact that I recommended him to Ian Williams, our Chief Operating Officer, who in due course provided a path of employment once he had graduated from University.
It’s been great having Sam on board and he’s slotted in perfectly. Match day has been the obvious benefit, as previously I was often on my own trying the best that I could to fit everything in. With radio commentary, match report, twitter updates and then post-match interviews immediately after the final whistle, it was busy, to put it mildly.
More than just the games though, Sam’s found his niche in the wider work of the football club. We work together well and as a media department, we are able to achieve more. It’s been a positive journey so far and I look forward to more of the same in the future.
