It’s another JD competition this Saturday (March 2, 2019) for The New Saints FC, as we take a break from the Welsh Premier League, with the Welsh Cup on the menu.
The quarter-final tie, on the road at Llandudno FC, is a 2.30 p.m. kick-off as both sides put their respective league challenges to one side. With The New Saints currently in second place – but with a game in hand over Connah’s Quay Nomads – the securing of an eighth successive title remains the number one priority.
Likewise, the Seasiders are engaged in a different battle of their own, as they currently sit in eleventh spot and nine points from safety. However, for as much as the league is very much on the minds of both clubs, nevertheless with the winner of the tie then just one game away from a final, it will be anything but a distraction.
With JD Welsh Premier League teams entering the competition at round 3, it means that both Llandudno and The New Saints have played two games to date in the JD Welsh Cup with neither having faced top flight opposition or being drawn at home.
Round three was a comfortable 3-0 victory at Cwmbran Celtic for The New Saints, courtesy of a Chris Seargeant hat-trick. Also on the road in south Wales, Llandudno’s long journey saw them rewarded with a 3-2 win at Briton Ferry Llansawel.
The following round was another three-goal margin for The New Saints, as Airbus UK Broughton were beaten 5-2 at the Hollingsworth Group Stadium. Llandudno again scored three, this time with just one conceded though, as they secured a 3-1 at Llangefni Town FC.
There will be supporters’ travel to the game from Park Hall. Contact Wayne Greenshields if you are interested on 07745 507 703. In addition, if you’re not at the game you can follow the action on TNS Radio. Details HERE.
