Connah’s Quay Nomads v The New Saints FC – The Last Time We Met

We go back to October 20, 2018, when the sides last went head-to-head, in the JD Welsh Premier League. The game at Park Hall, ended 3-0 to The New Saints, who went to the top of the table come the final whistle.

With both teams looking to keep it tight from the off, it was going to be either a moment of madness or brilliance that was going to break the deadlock. Fortunately for TNS FC, it was the latter as Greg Draper fed Aeron Edwards in the 26th minute.

Carrying the ball forward, the Wales C international midfielder unleashed a tremendous shot that gave John Danby no chance.

Although the visitors had a golden opportunity of their own in the final ten minutes of the half, the teams went into the break with just the one goal separating them.

As the game approached the two-thirds stage, Edwards grabbed his – and TNS’ – second as he lobbed the keeper before connecting with the ball again, tapping into an empty net.

Just minutes later, with 66 on the clock, it was game, set and match when Blaine Hudson nodded home as he got on the end of a Chris Marriott free-kick from the left.

The New Saints FC’s starting line-up: Harrison, Spender, Marriott, Cabango, Hudson, Holland, Routledge, Brobbel, Edwards, Mullan, Draper.
