The New Saints FC v Bala Town FC – Match Preview, As We Welcome The Lakesiders To Park Hall

With no game for the reigning champions last weekend, it’s back to JD Welsh Premier League (JD WPL) action this coming Friday (March 22) as The New Saints FC welcomes Bala Town to Park Hall.

Although the impressive 2-0 victory at the Deeside Stadium on March 9 saw Scott Ruscoe’s side return to the summit, that was short-lived, as Connah’s Quay Nomads regained top spot on Friday just gone (March 15) as they defeated Newtown AFC 2-0.

However, The New Saints is still very much in the driving seat, as the two-point gap is more than compensated for by a couple of games in hand. Of course, those have to be taken advantage of and that’s why, along with all the others to be played, the visit of the Lakesiders is another massive game in the pursuit of an eighth consecutive JD WPL title.

Colin Caton’s side has slipped to sixth place in the league with a disastrous – by their usual high standards – run of form to date in 2019. Seven games played have resulted in five defeats, one draw – a 2-2 at Maes Tegid against Newtown AFC – and one victory last Saturday at Jenner Park.

Six goals have been scored, while at the other end the defence has conceded fourteen. By contrast, The New Saints is on an excellent run of form at the moment and you have to go back to November 9, 2018, when the side last suffered defeat over ninety minutes.

The Saints have played the same number of league games as Bala Town in 2019 and although they share the common ground in that one game has been drawn with a 2-2 scoreline, that’s where the statistics go their separate ways as the other games have all been wins for TNS.

In fact, with 22 goals scored and none conceded, the statistics for those victories speak for themselves.

The New Saints FC will be wearing green and white hooped shirts, white shorts and white socks. The goalkeeper will be in a blue and orange shirt with blue shorts and blue socks.

The officials are: Rob Jenkins (referee), Martin Roberts and Gareth Wyn Jones (assistants) and Nick Pratt (4th official).

The game at Park Hall kicks off at 7.45 p.m. and you can find out more via our Fans’ Guide To Park Hall. If you’re not there in person, follow the action via TNS Radio, again the information is in the link.
